I first embraced the true beauty of my natural hair April 9th. Over the course of the 7months I had transitioned, I had become very obsessed with natural hair. This was not a new found love because I had always admired natural hair, especially naturally curly hair. So one day in September 2009, I had decided to grow my hair out so I can see what type of hair I have, hence, I had been introduced to the lyes at the tender age of 7. As it grew out I would see little curls form when I conditioned my hair. OH HOW I LOVED THE CURLS!! I also discovered that you can have more than one type of hair growing on the same head lol. At the top of my head my hair grows in wavy (type 2 hair) and sometimes form an S shape, while the back and sides have much tighter curls(type 3 hair). I wasn't too thrilled about having about 3 different types of hair on my head but eventually I grew to love all 3 of them as I learned what works for them. When I made a concrete decision on becoming natural, I began watching Youtube videos and constantly looking up anything that has to do with natural hair. It came to the point where I was supposed to be doing something else, but instead I would be watching Youtube tutorials and product reviews. Every time I turned on the computer I was looking for things about natural hair.
It seemed as if there were natural chicas everywhere I turned. I even noticed that the majority of African American women that are used to play in commercials are naturals.
Since I've been natural, I try to inspire others to go natural because I love every bit of it. I wish I had chosen to go natural when I first wanted to do it years ago. Back then I really didn't know much about natural hair or how to manage it during the transition process, somehow I managed to go through with the transition process this time. THANK GOD! I had origionally planned to do the BC(big chop) in September but I had become so anxious to cut my hair that eventually in April I cut my hair myself. I absolutely loved it and from there I began forming a wonderful relationship with my hair :). Since my BC I have recieved so many compliments on my hair than ever before.
